Fran Mazur is a Skokie artist working in oils, pastels and oil pastel--painting landscapes, portraits, figures and still life. She has studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Palette and Chisel Academy, has a BFA from Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois, and has studied with David Leffel, Romel De la Torre, Margaret Dyer, Scott Burdick, Dan Gerhartz and Ann Ponce.


Awards
Fran recently received the Best of Show Award at the 2008 Art Therapy Connection’s Lincoln Park Italian Chalk Festival for creating a 6’ X 8’ rendition of “Nighthawks” sponsored by the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation; First Place Award at the 2007 Skokie Artist’s Guild “Natures’ Palette” exhibit at the Emily Oaks Nature Center for the painting “The Rock Garden”; First Place Award in the 2006 Friends of the Wilmette Library Show for her child portrait “Eight”; awarded two consecutive individual Wilmette Library solo exhibits in 2007 and 2008 in the Friends of the Wilmette Library show; First Place Award in Evanston’s 2006 Plein Air Competition at the Noyes Cultural Center; Peoples’ Choice Award at the 2006 Skokie Art Guild Library Show and featured painting on 2007 Skokie Art Guild Library Show posters; Award of Merit in the Chicago Pastel Painter’s 2007 National Exhibition at the Palette and Chisel; Best of Show Award at the 2007 Art Therapy Connection’s Lincoln Park Italian Chalk Festival for her 6’ X 8’ rendition of “The Girl with the Pearl Earring”; was featured in the October 2007 issue of Artist’s Magazine; and 2006 Top 50 Miniatures Winner in the Paint America Top100 national show for her plein air landscape painting “Birch View”.

“Primarily I paint the figure, landscape and still life. In all of my work I am trying to capture the beauty, character and spirit of my subject.”
