R. W. Davis Cultural Preservation Award

2009 marks the beginning of the R. W. Davis  Cultural Preservation Award.  This year Cleopatra Castillo of Wilmette received the award.  Cleo is a photographer and world traveller, and is fluent in Spanish. The Davis Award gave her the opportunity to attend the Kwaxochitl Flower Festival in Zacatlan, Mexico to record this beautiful event for future generations.  In our fast moving world, as progress comes to the remote areas of the world, many traditions are abandoned without any record of what had been.  Cleo recorded over 2,000 photos of the area and the events during her 2 weeks in Mexico.  The Wilmette Arts Guild will present her photos in a special show later this year.
